KATRINA BEATTIE glass interior accessories

'My career path started in a design office, training to be a design engineer for an industrial ventilation company. I soon realised that I wanted to move away from straight lines and physics and go to Art College to draw curves and fulfil the desire to create craft with my hands.

It was twenty three years ago whilst on a two year foundation at Wrexham College that I fell in love with glass and have been working with it ever since. After completing a BA Hons degree course at the University for Creative Arts in Farnham, I went on to a post graduate course at The International Glass centre, Brierley Hill.

After that I co-owned the Glass Blowers workshop In Lewes and started making and selling my blown and kiln-formed glass wares. Whilst living in Sussex I joined The Sussex Guild of craftsmen, for which I have been an active member for seventeen years. I broadened my glass skills by attending master classes with some American glass blowing masters such as Richard Marquis, Dante Marioni, and Randy Walker.

I am passionate about teaching glass and keeping the art alive, creating more transparency by sharing techniques. I currently teach at West Dean College near Chichester, The Sussex Guild shop in Lewes and The Glass Hub which is next door to my rural studio on the Somerset Wiltshire Border.'
