The Dog House

RHODA K BAKER paperscapes and numeral-based artwork

In 1980 I graduated from the Royal College of Art in London with a degree in textiles. The knowledge I gained, particularly in weaving, directly inform the style of my work.

My ‘Paperscapes’ are predominantly white, low relief contoured maps of pattern and structure. I have a fascination with pattern, repetition, multiples, symbols, diagrams, hidden messages, codes and ciphers, and visual trickery. I am intrigued by the way light and shadow creates new and unexpected patterns on a white structure. I enjoy the practical processes of handling, measuring, cutting, gluing, perforating, embossing, scoring and piercing paper.

I am very interested in detail!
