LINDA CALVERT Bone China Lighting

'I love the translucence of bone china and have made these lamps and tealight holders to show off this quality.

I’ve mixed the slip with paper and textured the surface with my hands and with tools before firing to
1260°C.  The high temperature causes some movement and warping in the kiln, which is unpredictable and makes each object individual.  Bone china is vitrified at this temperature and becomes strong and translucent.

My 'sandcast' lamps were made on plaster cast on the beach at low tide – each impression is a lasting memory of a brief moment which will never be exactly repeated'.
